Fully Loaded Baked Turnip Fries

[3 SP per serving] Are you new to Weight Watchers or a similar diet? Do you miss loaded french fries? If so, then this one is for you. I understand that many of you have pre-labelled turnips as disgusting, but you need to give this recipe a chance people!

Ingredients

1½ lbs turnips, about 2 medium 0 SP
½ tsp garlic powder 0 SP
½ tsp onion powder 0 SP
¼ tsp table salt 0 SP
¼ tsp black pepper 0 SP
2 slices turkey bacon 2 SP
2 oz low-fat cheddar or Colby cheese, about ¼ cup shredded 2 SP
3 Tbsp light sour cream 2 SP
2 Tbsp scallions, chopped 0 SP

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Spray 2 baking sheets with nonstick spray.
  2. Peel turnips, and cut into fry-shaped spears.
  3. Place spears on the sheets, evenly spaced, and sprinkle with seasonings.
  4. Bake for 12 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, cook bacon until crispy, either in a skillet over medium heat or on a microwave-safe plate in the microwave. (See package for cook time.)
  6. Flip turnip spears. Bake until tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, about 14 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, chop or crumble bacon.
  8. Arrange spears on the centre of one baking sheet. Top with cheese. Bake until cheese melts, about 3 minutes.
  9. Top with sour cream, bacon, and scallions.

Notes

Many of the ingredients have been switched to a more healthy option, lowering the SP from 4 to 3.
